A recently report provides statistical insights on .AU domain names that have never before been released to the public.
The report, published by .AU registry operator AusRegistry, states New South Wales residents hold the most number of registrations (just under 1 million) followed by Victoria with 785,993 and Queensland's 567,803. Northern Territorians hold the least number (12,032), but the report points out results correlate with state and territory populations.
At the time the report was compiled (September 2014), 2,881,387 .AU domain names were currently registered. That has since grown to 2,913,479 (current as at November 7). With growth of over 20,000 registrations in just a couple of months, next year is very likely to see the 3 millionth .au name registered.
Other insights:
The report - titled "Behind the Dot, The State of the .au Domain" (PDF) - is part of a new quarterly series from AusRegistry.
A survey carried out for AusRegistry and .au Domain Administration (auDA) earlier this year found two-thirds of survey respondents were more likely to trust a .AU website compared with only one-third for a .COM
