AusRegistry and .au Domain Administration (auDA) have announced a new survey; the results of which will help the bodies better understand Australian Internet users and how they interact with the .AU domain namespace.
An abridged version that will build on last year's survey; the organisations are aiming to achieve a significant number of responses. Last year's effort saw over 10,000 responses and produced various interesting findings. For example, 1 in 4 respondents was a registrant of a .au domain name.
"Conducting annual surveys is a commitment that both AusRegistry and auDA have made to enhance our understanding of the Australian Internet community and its relationship with the .au namespace," George Pongas, General Manager of Registry Operations at AusRegistry.
"It is an opportunity to assess changes in user behaviour over time as well as our performance as the Registry Operator and the regulatory body."
The bodies say responses this year will be compared to identify any changes in perceptions, experience and knowledge of the .AU domain space since last year.
AusRegistry provides accreditation to domain name registrars offering Australian domains and auDA is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .AU namespace.
According to the latest statistics from the auDA web site, 2,794,797 .AU domains are currently registered. The 2 million mark was crossed in March 2011 and 2.5 million names were registered by August 2012. The .AU extension regularly features in the top 10 of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD's)
The .AU survey will run until the 18th of April 2014 and a report will be released later this year.
The survey is available here: www.ausregistry.com.au/survey2014. It consists of 21 multiple choice questions and should take around 5 minutes to complete.
