Australia's two peak domain industry bodies have launched an online survey to gauge Australian views with regard to the .au domain namespace and are hoping 10,000 Australians will take part. Survey summary results are expected to be released late this year. The results of this first survey will act as a baseline for future surveys. Read more »

A recent survey has found European registrars seem to be treating new generic Top Level Domains (gTLD's) with little enthusiasm and also show little concern with regard to the impact the new TLDs may have on country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD's). Read more »

The ANA has urged ICANN to enhance trademark protections before rolling out any new generic Top Level Domains; fearing trademark holders may need to spend large sums of money and expend significant resources in registering their marks under each new domain extension in order to prevent cybersquatting or fraudulent activities. The .AT extension, signifying Austria, celebrated its 25th year in January this year. Close to 1.2 million domains are currently registered under the .at extension and 400-600 new .AT names are being registered each day. It's quite an impressive result given the nation has less than a third of the population of Australia. Read more »
