The CENTR General Assembly held in Brussels last week voted in favour of the application for Associate Membership from the Australian ccTLD (.au).
"CENTR welcomes the arrival of auDA to the community and looks forward to their interaction and contributions," says a brief statement on the Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries web site.
The auDA (au Domain Administration) oversees the operations of the .au name space and is responsible for accrediting .au registrars.
CENTR's main role is the provision of a forum for the exchange of information between members and discussion of policies affecting ccTLD (country code Top Leve Domain) registries. CENTR also facilitates projects on technical management and legal issues affecting ccTLDs.
CENTR was formed in March 1998 and was initially informally funded by participant registries. Since 2006, CENTR has been registered as a non-profit organisation based in Brussels, Belgium.
CENTR now has 51 full members and 10 associate members; all of which manage one or more Top Level Domains (TLD's).
