CGI-BIN is short for Common Gateway Interface Bin, with "Bin"
meaning folder or short for "Binary", as most programs used to be referred to as binaries.
This feature allows you to run your own PERL scripts and executables. PERL is
a programming format originally developed in 1987 as a general-purpose Unix scripting language.
It has steadily evolved over the years and earned the nickname of "Swiss
Army Chainsaw" of programming languages given its power, flexibility and
adaptability for a multitude of applications.
While PERL scripts aren't as popular as they once were with technologies such
as PHP now more prevalent, there
are still many fantastic PERL scripts available and it remains the scripting
language of choice of many programmers.
You may not be a programmer or even ever need to use PERL scripts, but we we
want to ensure all Domain Registration Services web
hosting clients have as much flexibility and options for building and
enhancing their web sites as possible, so we include PERL support and a private
(not shared) CGI-BIN folder with all our plans, giving you even further control.
