My contact details have changed - how do I update my domain name's record?

Updating a domain name registrant record is a quick and simple process:

  1. Go to our secure domain management interface
  2. Enter your login details
  3. Click the "contact details" link after logging in
  4. Update your details and click "Update Information"

If you have forgotten your password, you can retrieve it using our password recovery function. If you no longer have access to the email address currently recorded for the name, you will need to download, submit and complete this form (PDF document).

To determine the current registrant contact email address, use our WhoIs feature.

The importance of keeping a domain name record current

Keeping registrant contact details up-to-date and accurate is an incredibly important task, but one often overlooked.

Aside from keeping details current being an auDA policy for domain registration; those details are used by registrars to relay important communication to domain name registrants.

For example, as a courtesy, we advise our customers of looming registration expiry dates. If the domain name record contains an outdated or incorrect email address; the registrant will not receive these emails and may forget to renew. After a certain period of registration fees not being paid, the domain will become inactive and then expire; after which time someone else may register the name. For a business, this could be a costly and disastrous, yet easily avoided oversight.

Additionally, if you lose your domain name password, the email address associated with the registrant record is where a registrar will send the new password or password reminder to. If the email address is not correct, regaining access to the administration interface can take a little while as your identity will need to be verified in the interests of security. Even if it's just a few hours delay, that may be quite inconvenient and expensive for your company.
